St. Andrew Centre for Human Resource Development and Counselling
ISSU has trained thousands of women and men in Christian education and
nurture since 1876. In 1926 the St Andrew Centre for Teacher Training
was established in Coonoor to further the training of teachers. Students
have come to Coonoor, from within and beyond India, every summer for
courses since 1926. Since 1990 the number and scope of the courses have
grown to include pastoral care and counselling, servant-leadership,
preaching, youth ministry, theology, ethics and so on.
Gifted and experienced faculty from India and abroad contribute to the
diversity and richness of the courses as part of continuing education for
students, lay leaders, and clergy.
The Centre offers continuing education seminars/workshops, courses in seminaries and colleges for students and faculty. In the recent past the Centre has hosted two travel courses of Princeton Theological Seminary and sent teams for teaching in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. It also offered a PG recognized course in Psychological Counselling among many other relevant seminars and courses.
Through the training programs, we seek to empower leaders to be transformational in the diverse work of the church in the world to strengthen her life and work and enhance the knowledge and skills of the laity, clergy, activists, and students. The main focus is on empowering the church through its teachers and thus the Creative Teaching for Transformation seminars are offered in India and beyond.
